For the fifth year in a row, I will be an artist-at-large at this remarkable "not only jazz" learning experience in New York's Catskill Mountains region, founded and led by guitarist/composer Joel Harrison. This year’s roster of faculty members is stellar, stylistically diverse, and arguably historic: Kurt Rosenwinkel, Vernon Reid, Mary Halvorson, Wolfgang Muthspiel, Gilad Hekselman, Kevin Eubanks and Anthony Pirog will lead workshops and master classes along with Harrison, in addition to performing. John Scofield will perform with his trio (bassist Larry Grenadier & drummer Bill Stewart), and will converse with his longtime bass guitarist/composer colleague Steve Swallow. Drummer Harvey Sorgen will also be on hand as artist-at-large. Nightly student jam sessions (with house rhythm sections) and times for attendees to meet and play are planned. There may be a few slots still left, and even scholarships; see https://www.alternativeguitarsummitcamp.com/ for details and registration.
